UNESCO's International Dance Council

LA Dances™ is an active member of The International Dance Council (CID). CID is the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance in all countries of the world. It is a non-profit non-governmental organization founded in 1973. Reflecting the principles of the United Nations and UNESCO, it is open to all approaches to dance, without prejudice for race, gender, religion, political affiliation or social status.

UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, was founded in 1945. Through the work of its members, UNESCO’s global efforts include promoting cultural diversity, improving literacy rates, protecting world ecosystems, promoting freedom of expression and preserving human rights.

Santa Monica Dance Studio

LA Dances is the resident dance company of Santa Monica Dance Studio (SMDS). SMDS was founded by Benedicte Schoyen 10 years ago. Benedicte’s vision was to operate a studio that welcomes professional and amateur dancers alike and where all students can focus on learning and achieving their personal goals in dance under the guidance of outstanding and dedicated instructors.

Santa Monica College

Santa Monica College (SMC), a two-year community college, opened in 1929 with just 153 students. It has now grown into a thriving campus with 25,000 students and offerings in more than 80 fields of study. SMC is the leader among the state's 108 community colleges in transferring students to the University of California, University of Southern California, and other four-year campuses.

Fractured Atlas

LA Dances is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, which provides services, resources, and support to liberate a nation of artists. From healthcare to publicity to development grants, we supply critical tools for independent artists and arts organizations so they can focus on their creative responsibilities. By nurturing today's vital but underrepresented voices, we hope to play a role in fostering a dynamic and diverse cultural landscape of tomorrow.
